Before today’s current technology, you mostly relied upon your experience and gut feelings to
determine if an ID was real or not, especially if you were involved in security or restaurant management.
How many times have you checked an ID, thought it was good, only to find out later that it was counterfeit?
With ID scanners, you don’t have that problem it electronically detects if an ID is real.
So how do ID scanners work? The scanners work by utilizing advanced applications that read printed information
on the ID and check for accurate security patterns. The security patterns can be bar codes, magnetic strips,
holograms, color combinations, etc. If these patterns are incorrect, then the ID scanner will alert you.
The scanner can also send the information or report to other applications, email, or to the web. In other
words, it acts as a mini-security system that fits in the palm of your hand.
Let’s say you’re an owner of a club and you’ve been having problems identifying underage clientele. Your
security guards have been trained in recognizing fake ID’s, but they’ve been unsuccessful in most cases.
An ID scanner can rectify the matter in moments. The security guard simply puts the ID through the scanner
and in seconds, he’ll be alerted if the ID is counterfeit or not. Not only is the underage customer caught,
but he also tells his friends that the club has an ID scanner. It will be the last place his friends try to
enter illegally.
Grocery and liquor storeowners can also benefit from the scanner. Instead of the clerk merely checking the
customer’s age and picture on the ID, he can simply pass it through the scanner and it will tell him if it’s
real or not, or if he’s underage. After all, clerks are human and mistakes are made when calculating age
against date of births.
Once you’ve used an ID scanner, you won’t go back to simply checking ID’s based on hunches or experience.
You’ll come to appreciate the wisdom and technology that scanners have to offer, and you’ll feel more
comfortable knowing that your customers are of legal age.
